• Faster breathing + airflow = tear evaporation → dry, uncomfortable contacts

The key takeaway:
Most of this is normal. That “subconjunctival heme” might look scary, but it’s usually harmless and resolves on its own.

If it keeps happening, or you have underlying conditions like glaucoma—it’s worth getting checked.

GLP-1s are everywhere right now… but what do they actually mean for your eyes?

Most patients with diabetes will benefit: better blood sugar control + weight loss = lower risk of diabetic retinopathy over time. That part is real.

But here’s the nuance ⬇️
In the first few months, a small group of patients can actually see a temporary worsening of retinopathy. It’s not new (we saw it with insulin years ago), but it does mean these patients need to be watched more closely early on.

Key takeaway:
This isn’t a reason to avoid GLP-1s. Long-term, they’re protective. You just need the right follow-up strategy at the start.

As for macular degeneration? Still too early to say. The data isn’t there yet.
